In the mid 1950's, my parents purchased a lake front cabin on Jonathon Creek. My passion at a very young age for fishing began thanks to my dad, Woodrow Penrod, and two uncles, Ed and Gibby Penrod. They would take me out on an old Army landing barge with a 7.5 hp. Evinrude motor and a long-handled, sculling paddle. We sure caught a lot of fish. The limit for crappie at that time was 60 fish per person. Today, it is 20 fish per person. Unlike now, we didn't have the up-to-date electronics I currently use on my Ranger Bass boat. Back then we had to learn where the drops, the road beds, and the flats were located. Today, when I fish I still use the same techniques, but the only difference is I have the benefits of the electronics with way points to see if the fish are in the area.
Much has changed over the years, but I am still doing what I love the most. Fishing and spending time with my family. After my retirement, I moved back to Jonathon Creek with my wife, Patty, where I have an established fishing guide business. Though some things have changed one thing has not, I am still catching fish. I am on the lake at least 200+ days out of the year. If I am not fishing, I am putting out fish attractors with my buddies.
If you are planning a family vacation or just need a break for the weekend, I invite you to join me on the lake. There is nothing finer than seeing a BIG smile on a child's face when he/she catches that first fish.
